The description and excerpt of this book at

look good. But their online ordering system doesn't work (at least for me), and
they don't answer email.
Has anybody seen this book? If so, is it worthwhile? Any ideas how I can get it?
Thanks.

Memory Upgrade + Wizoo book...

Hey, I'm another one that jumped on the K5000s bandwagon...so far, it's great! I
haven't had the time to do much tinkering, but seeing as I don't have much
experience with programming sounds, I had a couple of questions...
1) Is the memory upgrade worth it? Necessary? How many of you guys really needed it?
In a worst-case scenario, when the system is loaded with just the high-quality,
complex sounds, how fast does the memory get eaten up? Lastly, how much
additional memory do I get?
2) Any of you guys try the Wizoo K5k book yet? I've heard one person say it's
great..but that's about it. Any other
opinions?
Well, time to go play s'more...

I just finished the Wizoo book, and I'd have to say, "It's OK." I'd learned almost
as much just by playing around in SoundDiver for a couple of days. There are some
pretty good tips and rules of thumb. Plus, it comes with a disk with
.WAV and AIFF files for import, as well as some LOGIC utility (too bad I use
Cakewalk).
I can't say it was great, but it was generally good reading, and the guys who wrote
it definitely have a good sense of humor (once again contributing to the
readability). If you're new to programming, it's probably worth it--MUCH better
than the manual.
Overall: "Cheap at half the price."-FF

How much does the Wizoo book cost? What is the full name of the book? Who is the
author? Do you have an ISDN for it? Where is the best place to get it? Are there
any other books out there for the K5kS that are worthy of consideration?
Thanks

"introduction to additive synthesis - advanced sound design - tips and tricks"
by dave bellingham and peter gorges
published by wizoo (germany), www.wizoo.com, but you can get it from kawai
themselves for $30 (which is what it costs from wizoo also) also check recent
issues of keyboard magazine, i've seen ads for other wizoo products
isbn 3-927954-21-7
my opinion - it's pretty good (solid gold compared to the manual, for sure), but
could have been edited better (slightly breathless style, not always clear, patch
pictures and text mismatches, etc.) i personally would have wished for a more
detailed expose on sound theory and additive synthesis. but hey, there aren't too
many options out there...

Just found this note on the K5000 mailing list from one of the authors of the
Wizoo K5000 programmer's guide. They have an excellent web page with all the
system, etc. downloads in one place and the page is in english. Go here:

Here's a copy of his note:

Hi to everyone,
My name is Dave Bellingham and I'm the author of the Wizoo Guide K5000.
My partner in crime, Peter Gorges, and I consult to Kawai (and other
manufacturers) and had a hand in the K5000's development.
Peter programmed the majority of the version 3.0 (and earlier revs.) patch
libraries...
He also provided many of the raw samples in the K5000 ROM.
Having (finally) found the time, I have gone back through the Digests to
get a feel for what's been happening here and must say that it's nice to
see such a positive mailing list.
Many karma points to Chris for setting it up...it's a long overdue resource...
Check the following URL for more info on version 4.0 (when the info is
available) and for any updates to the guide (this will probably be a
downloadable PDF file) that may be necessary as a result of the new OS at:
http://www.wizoo.com/docs/english/bookservice/k5000.htm
or visit the site and find your own way 'round at:
http://www.wizoo.com
I will be receiving the digest, and will do my best to respond (this may
take a few days) to any questions you may have regarding the book...and,
hey...even the synths!
My thanks to those of you who've purchased the guide...from what I've read,
most of you seem pretty happy with it which gladdens this old man's heart ;-))
(End of copy)
