The K5000S seem to be going for around $1000 lately. I've seen a place on the
analog mailing list selling them at 995 and all the Guitar Centers here around
Los Angeles have them at 999 + tax and I think they advertise the 5000R at 799.
Haven't seen any of the knob boxes though.

The Guitar Centers in my area had only one K5000S and it was always the one
on display. They said Kawai had a weird distribution scheme and that they
didn't stock the stores with more than one ?? They'd have to order one if you
wanted to buy, which shouldn't have been a problem as Kawai is in Compton
(L.A.), but the one store I asked said it would take two weeks :-( Fortunately
I found one GC which didn't put their K5000S on display. New, unopened
with 3.0 software out the door was $1078.

I've got the K5kR. The D bank seems to have room for a lot of new patches. The A
bank only semms to have room for one or two more patches before you
have to erase presets. However, the SoundDiver software will hold on to those
     patches for you.

     The knob box sends CC's.

The best price I saw for the K5kR was $700; I think the S should go for under $1k.
It's extremely flexible, a tinkerer's dream, and it makes some sounds you
     can't get anywhere else.

Got an "Inventory Meltdown" flyer from Guitar Center today: $500 for the K5kR
and $850 for the K5kS. They say it's a "while they last" sale until January
      31.

Depends on where you are; they have stores all over the west and midwest and

Guitar Center and the K5k

     192.28.2.19 writes:

A couple of music store people I talked to recently indicated that the recent
blowout sale of K5k's from Guitar Center was due to a "blowout" between GC
and Kawai. It sounded like it wasn't a reflection on the instrument.

I get the impression that some of Kawai's timid approach comes from marketing
a synth like it's a piano; for example, I heard they would only send one floor
model and asked stores to take orders for more. Personally, I like to be in on
a good secret, but . . . Anyway, I'm glad they're standing behind it and coming
     out with new models.

Prices on New K5000s?

I'm about to buy a new K5000s for $735? Good
deal? I don't care about a couple of dollars
here and there. I saw once used ONCE for $550
and missed it by 10 minutes. It will be the
first new synth that I have purchased in 10
years. From what I gather, it's worth it...

That sounds like a good deal to me. Last February, I almost got a k5kw for $1000
Canadian. New, they were going for $2795!! They just lowered the price on it to
$1895, but that's with an old ass operating system, and I think one of the outputs
is bitched. I'd like to add that these 2 boards are the only ones i've seen in
Canada, and it's not like I'm in the boonies or something. The 5000s is more my
speed I think, but it'd be nice to at least find one somewhere.

This is worth investigating. I just bought a new K 5000s out the door for $510
from this guy. It comes from Sam Ash in CA. Apparently SA bought out all of the
Kawai stock and have to move them. Woodwind/Brasswind had them yesterday for
      $745 ($620 rack mount)!

SA is listing the synth for $459 and the rack mount for $499; who knows. I look
forward to receiving the synth next week and frequenting this site afterward.

I bought a K5KR from samash yesterday. This after promising myself that I would
never buy a synth from them again. The price was $499. The K5KS was similarly
priced. I got a floor demo knobox ("the last one": RIGHT) for $89 too.

I called Kawai US looking for an ME-1 and a copy of the sound libraries as well
as service manuals. While on the phone with them, I asked if they were
discontinuing the K5000 series. Sales grunt at Kawai replies, "Nope, we just have
a special deal with Sam Ash." My receipt from samash says "discontinued model:
do not reorder". I sure as hell would like a straight answer.

Kawai will sell you parts, but at list. They told me to go to sweetwater for a
      better price.

Hello and Happy New Year to All,

Recieved a Musician's Friend Catalog yestereday and they now have a K5KW sale @
      $799.99. Their email is www.musiciansfriend.com

I know many folks were dissapointed in not being able to acquire a K5K so here's
      another round of Rock-Bottom-Prices.

For comparison, I paid $1319.00 for my K5KS in April 97. I still consider that
the synthesizer bargain of my life BECAUSE there is nothing like a K5K for
everything form elctronica to Fourier Theory in your ear!

Also--I highly recommend getting the Dr. John biography and reading it!
