I received this bit of info via the SoundDiver mailing list. It may be of
interest to other owners of the Peavey 1600 or Peavey 1600X slider controller boxes
(gads, I love mine!!!!)

This is quiet easy to do.
Start sounddiver and select the synth you want to program in the PC1600.
Change the target-midi-channel or port of that synth-object to the in-port of
your PC1600.
In sounddiver, click on a patch and open the edit mode.
Set your PC1600 in learn mode.
Now move (for example) the fader you want to program in your PC1600.
Sounddiver will send out the sysex-information to your PC1600 in stead of to
your synth.
Change the sysex-string in the PC1600 so that the variable part changes when
you move the PC1600 fader. When you don't know which byte is the variable
part, move the fader in sounddiver untill you notice which byte changes.
Presto.
When you route the midi out of the PC1600 to your computer (and sounddiver),
the faders of your PC1600 will move the corresponding objects (envelopes,
faders, knobs) in sounddiver.
Works extremely fine.
This is especially spectacular when you are editing envelopes. You see them
graphically changing while you are sliding the faders.
This method works for all my synths (Prophecy, Roland JV-1000, E4, ...),
except for the mWave I.
Success,

| Pardon my ignorance if this has been suggested before.
| I'd like to use my
| PC1600 to remote control SD editors. In Emagic's Logic
| environment, faders
| are easily linked to external controllers. This would be
| really awesome if
| I could use a control surface and/or normal MIDI
| controllers to set the
| parameter values of all my SD editable gear, seeing the
| changes in real time
| on the screen.

| Neutrino Mass, it's what keeps me from becoming completely

Check out this site:

There is a file you can use to set up your K5000 and PC1600 together if you
haven't already figured it out on your own.

Just to forewarn everybody, I will be finishing up the documentation pretty soon
on a set of 20 presets for the Peavey 1600x which handle just about every
K5000s function via its sysex implementation. I will announce it here when I
upload it to the site mentioned by kenji (I already have corresponded with the
webmaster there) and on my own site as well. Of course, it will be made available
for everyone here via the utilities archives, I'm sure. This has been a lot of
work, and I'm still testing and removing bugs here and there, and the documentation
I decided to flesh-out in a big way, so give me a couple more weeks
and it should be done.

Is anyone on the list using a Peavey 1600 or 1600x to control a k5000r. I was
looking into purchasing the Kawai mcb-10 but thought that something like the 1600
might be more flexible for use with my other equipment also.

I have a 1600x, and I see no reason why it wouldn't work. I have a K5000S so I
have no real need to do it, the peavey is very programmable, unlike the MCB.

I just read a post in which the author said he got a PC1600X for $300. I wish
Peavey did mail order. I've tried a couple of Peavey dealer in my area (Michigan)
and I was told that I should wait for a month until they can get one for me :-(
Currently I can emulate the knob box using 12 real time controllers of my AN1x
(8 knobs, 1 wheel, Y-Z axis of a ribbon controller), but I'd love to get a
separate controller. The newer version of PhatBoy from Keyfax (around $150) is
supposedly believed to be completely programmable (w/12 knobs). I'll check it out.

I think the going rate is about $300, they can be pretty hard to find though. I
found mine used for $200, and am very happy with it. I use mine on my K2500R,
because it emulates all the controllers that are standard on the Kbd version,
and it works beautifully.

What a coincidence! I just [JUST!] emailed Kenji a letter with a ton of
K5000S-related presets for use by the Peavey 1600X. If anyone needs such right
away, email me. These are strictly beta (all haven't been tested yet), and it would
be helpful if some folks put these presets through their paces.
The 1600X is - for both Laura (my partner) and I - one of the most useful tools we
ever could have imagined adding to our studios. (Well, Laura has it now, in hers,
running an Emu Esynth rack and Wavestation SR, which is why I haven't
had it to finalize testing of these presets on my K5000S.)
I really think I'm buying another one. That's how great it is.
My local store (who carried Peavey) ordered it and I had it two weeks later.
