Now that the hoopla has died down and the new roland and korg physical modelling
keyboards are out, is everyone still keen on the K5000s?
Is there anything like a general midi mode on the K5000s, or is this only a
feature on the K5000r?

Yes! The K5k is additive synthesis, it's a whole different animal from physical
modeling units or anything else. Somebody wrote that it's the only kind of
synthesis that hasn't been done to death. The physical modelling units are
emulating old analog units, they don't seem to have much potential to do something
new.
Also, they're way overpriced. I got a Waldorf Pulse (real analog, similar to a
minimoog), a good effects unit and the K5kR for less than the Roland JP8000.
There's no GM on the K5kS or K5kR; there is on the K5kW, the workstation. (Get
a Roland M-GS64, or just get a good soundcard!)
